Marine Awareness, Research and Educational Society Incorporated, better known as MARES, is a non-profit domestic corporation composed of scientists, educators, and concerned citizens. Its primary purpose is the conservation, protection, restoration, and enhancement of coastal, marine, and interconnected and interdependent ecosystems. Ecosystems that provide socio-economic benefits and contribute to the well-being of society.
We focus on raising awareness, conducting research, promoting education, and fostering cooperative action.

Our Mission
At MARES, we are deeply concerned about the harmful environmental impacts of human activity, which are becoming increasingly evident. Our mission is to raise awareness of the loss and degradation of ecosystems while engaging citizens, scientists, civil servants, and business leaders in their conservation, protection, and restoration.
We achieve this through a structured, community-based process of outreach, education, research, debate, and action. By fostering community participation, we prioritize conservation, restoration, and pollution control efforts, supported by monitoring that ensures effective implementation of measures.
We focus on building awareness, education, and capacity, empowering people to take part in programs and projects that strengthen commitment to environmental stewardship. We also promote cooperation among individuals, organizations, and government entities, while collaborating with conservation groups and entrepreneurs.
Through community-driven climate adaptation strategies, beach management plans, teamwork, and the creation of Community Action Teams, we seek to replace indifference with genuine concern for the well-being of our ecosystems.

From the beginning, the organization has embraced a vision that only by joining forces, through education and raising awareness, will we be able to rescue and rehabilitate our natural heritage. We firmly believe that united, we can make a difference.
