Solutions Implementation

We implement science-based, nature-driven solutions that restore ecosystems, enhance resilience, and create lasting benefits for both people and the environment.

Putting Solutions into Action

Climate change will continue to intensify, bringing more frequent and extreme events that threaten the stability of upland and coastal ecosystems as well as built infrastructure. Although the exact timing is uncertain, impacts will increase at an accelerating pace. This is why climate considerations must be factored into every planning, investment, mitigation, and adaptation decision we make. None of these choices can be effective without recognizing the critical role that natural systems play in buffering these impacts.

We strongly recommend that each community develop a Community-Based Climate Change Adaptation Plan. Such a plan should include:

  1. A vulnerability assessment and risk prioritization process that identifies exposure to climate-related hazards and their potential impacts on critical infrastructure, sensitive ecosystems, and community well-being.

  2. Specific adaptation strategies designed with active community participation.

  3. A focus on engaging residents through participatory meetings, field assessments, and the creation of Community Climate Action Teams that provide input, local knowledge, and solutions.

  4. Identification of vulnerable populations that may need special assistance in adapting, responding, evacuating, or recovering from disasters.

By involving the community directly in both the design and implementation of adaptation plans, we can build safer, more resilient communities capable of facing the challenges of a changing climate.
